Cyprus, known as the island of Aphrodite - the Greek goddess of beauty
and love, is an island of great scenic beauty and charm. It is situated
at the eastern end of the Mediterranean Sea, lying at the hub of three
continents, a crossroad between East and West. It is the third largest
Mediterranean island, with an area of 9,251km² and a population
of 700,000. The capital is Nicosia and other seaside towns are Limassol,
Larnaka, Pafos and Paralimni (Protaras and Ayia Napa), with Famagusta
and Kyrenia still under Turkish occupation. The Island's strategic
location has shaped its history and civilisation throughout the centuries
and still today it remains a living, breathing mosaic of cultures,
cuisine and undiscovered riches. It is also one of the few countries
where it is possible to ski in the mountains and swim in the Mediterranean,
all in the same day.
Cyprus has more to offer the visitor and resident than any other island
in the Mediterranean – a fascinating blend of landscape, climate,
history and culture. It has a seemingly endless coastline of sandy
coves and beaches washed gently by crystal clear blue waters. Travel
a little way from the coast and into the pine forests. In winter you
can ski on the slopes of the Troodos Mountains in the spring and autumn,
experience the amazing kaleidoscope of colours that abound in that
region. There are 2 main airports, Larnaca and Paphos and two harbours
– Larnaca and limassol. There are also 2 yachting marinas and
further 4 are planned for completed by 2006.
It also has the healthiest all year round climate in the Mediterranean
- around 340 sun drenched days every year! Imagine waking up to blue
skies and warm sunshine nearly every day. Combine the sunshine with
their excellent infrastructure, high quality of life, low cost of
living and generous tax incentives, which attracts people from all
over the world, you have paradise! Then shake hands with the local
people, whose reputation for good food and hospitality is world-wide,
and you will want to stay forever
